I think that being a warrior is an honorable way of life, and that all societies must have strong militaries or suffer the consequences. A lot of what our military does has nothing to do with protecting the American people -- in fact, the actions of the American military often goes against the interests of the American people. But those decisions are not made by individual war-fighters.

Killing Osama bin Laden was, and in my opinion obviously so, something that greatly benefited not just Americans but everyone in the world. And I think the way in which it was done required tremendous skill, iron discipline, and total commitment.

Navy Seals are very much like Samurai warriors. Their incredible talents are often misused in power games that do not benefit society. But in this instance they did what needed to be done, and they were probably the only people on earth who could have done it. That's why I say Gods bless them.

I do think that there is a lot of wisdom in The Book of Five Rings, but ultimately it does not (except possibly in a very obtuse way in The Book of the Void) teach how to avoid war, and when war is unavoidable, how to determine which side is Just.Apuleius Platonicushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11761230673724504084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817911217098974229.post-35017718114334925772011-05-04T14:45:38.003-04:002011-05-04T14:45:38.003-04:00Oh, Apuleius this is so interesting. Is it possible for the modern military to be in contact with the elements to such an extent that they (the elements) cooperate with what the navy seals are doing?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
