  1. Absolutely wonderful. I love this song since I heard Nina Simone´s version - nobody puts quite so much murder in it as her.
There is a Brazilian adaptation (it is not quite the same song) by Chico Buarque called Geni e o Zepelin (Geni and the Zeppelin). The wikipedia article is here:

    and the song is here:http://letras.terra.com.br/chico-buarque/77259/

    Thanks for the links,

  2. Interesting! I will definitely check out Geni and the Zeppelin! I think that Angela Carole Brown's version shows the influence of Nina Simone, especially in terms of really "putting the murder in it". Also I think there is something especially cold-blooded about Frauke Broecker's very nice rendition in the original German.

  3. Yes, Angela Carole Brown is something else. While the three last versions made me chuckle all the way, her version is really hair-raising.
Comic book writer Alan Moore was inspired by this song in at least two of his works, Watchmen (which as a parallel storyline about pirates) and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Century, where one of the characters lives through a version of Pirate Jenny´s story. It´s very interesting.
