The Law of Thelema according to Dunlap

The Red State Update $120 political ad for the Aleister Crowley in 2012 write-in campaign is possibly the most WTF viral video since the Christian Side-Hug. (Here's a link to the official campaign website, where you can even get AC 2012 yard signs!)

The boys not only pronounce Crowley's name correctly, but they manage to work in references to Ozzy Osbourne, Jimmy Page, and Jay Z.

And Dunlap's explanation of the Law of Thelema is priceless. Here's a direct link to that part, but really you should watch the whole video.

Also, Jackie's closing rendition of "Old Rugged Cross" (direct link) is, well, fucking beautiful.

[The direct links are a little hinky because of the commercial at the beginning of the video. You have to wait for the very brief (I think it's only 10 seconds) commercial to finish, then refresh your browser and it will go directly to the correct portion of the video.]

I love this video so much. I mean, I've enjoyed Red State's brand of political commentary since the run-up to the 2008 election, so it was quite a joy to see them do this for Crowley. And, as you point out, they have a surprising degree of accuracy and insight. Far more, in fact, than I've seen from many self-professed Pagans and Thelemites. Kinda makes you wonder if there was more than $120 behind this thing, eh? Either way, I'm definitely casting my vote for the Great Beast come election time ... unless Alexander or one of the Ptolemies should decide to run. They would, after all, have more leadership experience.

As a card-carrying member of the Great Beast Furtherment Society, I have to say that this moment has been a long time coming.

And I shall do my best to spread the virus.

I'm writing in Apuleius or Sannion for VP. Not me, I'm too busy. Although a six-figure salary for an office worth a bucket of warm spit IS tempting ...

Thanks very much for posting this! Regarding the speculations about where Jackie and Dunlap may have got such insight, we admit that we fed them a lot of specific information to include in the video, but the humor is all theirs! They did a wonderful job. For our part, following the video, we produced a "Guide to the Campaign Ad" which explains many (not all!) of the odd references and symbolic correspondences made by RSU. We even found good, solid symbolism to fit with their off-the-wall humor in a few places. Check it out; the link is below!
